(Frequently Asked Questions)

What is a monitoring system?

A monitoring system is a device able to provide constantly updated info about electricity production of one or more PV plants. It also detects any production fault. Monitoring energy production is very important activity because a PV plant is a machine, therefore its operation needs to be checked periodically because its components will become obsolete.

I am a private citizen: Why should I monitor my PV plant?

Checking the working status of your PV plant is very important, because a reduced production, or worst a non production, means an economic loss, even if a short time long. The money you initially invest, in fact, is paid back for the most part by the Conto Energia tariff multiplied by the amount of energy produced. If we consider a residential PV plant (3 kWp), a single day of missed production means on average a 7,5 euro loss.

I am an Installer: Why should I monitor my PV plants?

If you are an installer and you offer also a good monitoring system to your costumer, it will give you all data about production and it will give you warning by e-mail or sms when a fault should occur. By this way you could inform the costumer, operate as soon as possible to limite the production loss, offering by this way an excellent service. Solar2you allows to monitoring by a single access up to . PV plants, regardless of the inverter brand.

Wich is the difference between Solar2you and a monitoring system realized by a company producing inverter?

Several companies producing inverters realize monitoring system specifically adapted to the component they produce. Solar2You is instead a monitoring system compatible with more inverter brands: this means a benefit for the end user because he will not be forced to change the whole control device in case of inverter replacement during the 20 years of the PV plant's life.

What kind of information about the PV plant operation does S2Y provide?

When you enter in the S2Y portal, you can easily display all the main information: produced energy, revenue from Conto Energia, avoided CO2 The system is able to separately analyze the curves of production, of intake, of drawing from the grid and of energy requirements. Solar2You also allows to check in real-time the operation and to analyze the performance of each system component: strings, inverter and meter.

What is the Performance ratio?

The index comparing the actual production and the expected one is called Performance ratio (PR) and it is expressed as a percentage Therefore it indicates the percentage of energy actually available to the grid minus the energy losses and the consumption of the appliance. The more the value of PR detected is near 100%, the more efficient is the PV plant. However, a 100% value will never really be achieved since a working PV plant always records unavoidable losses (eg. heat losses due to the PV modules heating). Therefore it is important that a monitoring system calculating the PR is able to generate an alarm when its value is low but also when it is too high. Solar2You can calculate the PV plant performance at predefined times.

How do I get alarms of any malfunctions?

When anomalies occur, S2Y automatically generates alarms that can be sent by SMS and email to the end user and the PV plant maintainer

What is the maintenance plan?

A PV plant needs regular maintenance of its components to work properly. Solar2You manages the maintenance plan of the PV plant and it propose periodical inspections for each component. S2Y records every maintenance operation performed and produces reports also valid for the guarantee.
